Brexit

New Publication in the European Journal of Industrial Relations

We are pleased to announce the publication of our new article, "Brexit's Impact on Transnational Employee Representation: Regulatory Changes and Contested Futures of European Works Councils," which has recently been published as an OnlineFirst article in the European Journal of Industrial Relations.

The article examines how Brexit has reshaped the institutional foundations of European Works Councils (EWCs). Drawing on a historical institutionalist approach, we conceptualize Brexit as a "critical juncture" that both exposes and accelerates existing institutional dynamics. The analysis is based on 64 company case studies. The findings demonstrate how macro-institutional transformations lead to a reconfiguration of institutional arrangements through negotiation processes at the meso level.

The article is the result of long-standing transnational collaboration between Cardiff University, Ruhr University Bochum, and IRES Paris.

Patrick Witzak, Markus Hertwig, Anna Frisone, Marco Hauptmeier, Marcus Kahmann, Louis Lines
